The Bible makes it clear that we have all messed up in life.  Romans 3:23 tells us that everyone has sinned and fallen short of measuring up to God’s standards.  You see, His standard is perfection, and none of us can match it.  The first time you ever told a lie made you a liar.  The first time you ever took something that didn’t belong to you made you a thief.  These are just a few of the guidelines (Ten Commandments) that He gave us.  Let’s take just a moment to look at all ten of them.

The Ten Commandments…

1.  You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me.
Who of us can say that we have always kept God first in our lives?  When you chase after money, or any other thing in your life, you replace Him as the most important thing.

2.  You Shall Not Make Yourself Any Graven Image.
This commandment is very similar to the first commandment.  God is telling us that we should not worship anything but Him.

3.  You Shall Not Take The Name Of The Lord Your God In Vain.
God is telling us that when we use His name casually instead of reverently, we have dishonored His name.  Some people go so far as to use His name as profanity.  Instead of using a four-letter filth word to express disgust, they use the name of the God who gave them life.  This is called blasphemy and is a very serious sin in the eyes of God.

4.  Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
God wants us to set aside at least one day each week to honor Him in worship.  He tells us that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together in worship.

5.  Honor Your Father And Mother.
Have you always honored your parents?  Have you ever walked in rebellion toward them.  Think of it this way:  when we break the other commandments, we break this one, too.  In fact, that is exactly what the Bible teaches.  The Bible says that if we break one commandment, we are guilty of breaking all of them.

6.  You Shall Not Kill.
We know that it is wrong to kill, but Jesus said that if we hate someone we are a murderer at heart.  Have you ever hated anyone?

7.  You Shall Not Commit Adultery.
We know that adultery is wrong, but let’s take it one step further.  Jesus told us that if we ever look with lust (sexual desire) at someone, then we have already committed adultery in our heart.  Have you ever looked with lust?

8.  You Shall Not Steal.
Have you ever taken anything that did not belong to you?  The very first time you did it, you were labeled as a thief in God’s sight.

9.  You Shall Not Lie.
Who of us can say that we’ve never lied?  Everyone has done it.  We are all liars as far as God is concerned, and that is why everyone needs a savior.

10.  You Shall Not Covet.
This means that you should not want something that does not belong to you.  This is the commandment that people break before they break the eighth commandment, which says we shall not steal.

Can you see, that by looking into the law of God (the Ten Commandments), we are all guilty?  Let’s now look at what the Bible says will happen to those who break His laws.  Revelation 21:8 says, “All liars will have their part in the lake of fire (hell).”  Once again, I ask you, have you ever told a lie?  First  Corinthians 6: 9-10 tells us that no thief or adulterer will enter heaven.  Have you ever stolen or looked with lust?  The Bible also tells us that God ‘will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.’  Have you ever misused His name?

Friend, by these standards, you are in big trouble.  Judgment day is soon coming, and that is why Jesus came!  You see, Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and then gave up his life for you.  He didn’t have to do it!  The Bible tells us, “The souls that sins shall die.”  Jesus had no sin, but died in your place because He knew that there was no way that you could enter heaven with your sin.  That is how wonderful His love is for you.  Romans 5:8 tells us that “God demonstrated His love for you, in that while you were still a sinner, Christ died for you.”  He paid your ‘court fine’ so that you could go free.  This is wonderful news.

Sadly, though, there are some people who reject what He has done.  There are those who, in the light of all this, refuse to believe in judgment, heaven, hell, etc….   It is like someone who has fallen from a plane and is quickly approaching the ground, yet, all the while, he is defiantly shouting, “I don’t believe in the ground!”  His unbelief does not negate reality.  Without a parachute, he will slam into the ground, and his life will end.

Right now, you are that person.  Jesus is offering you a parachute, not so that your life won’t end, but that your life might begin. When you trust in Him and what He has done for you, the Bible says that you will pass from death to life.

So, how do you receive this new life?  Acts 17:31 says, “God commands all men to repent (stop sinning) because He has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness.”  Friend, that day is closer than you think!  You need to not only repent, but also place your faith and trust in Jesus to save you from hell, just as you would place your faith and trust in that parachute to save you from death.

He is offering you eternal life as a free gift.  Don’t pass up this opportunity.  If you do, you’ll regret if for eternity.  That’s right.  Hell will never stop.  Make the right choice today.  Pray something like this….

“God I know that I am a sinner in your sight.  I have broken your laws and deserve to go to hell.  God I know now that Jesus died in my place, to take my punishment and pay my fine, so that I might be set free.  I believe that Jesus then rose from the dead, proving that He is God.  I repent of my sins (name them), and I place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ to save me from hell.  I ask you to forgive my sins, and grant me everlasting life.  And, Lord, I pledge to live for you the rest of my life.”

If you have just prayed something like that, then you are a new person.  2 Cor 5:17 tells us that “If any one is in Christ, then he is a new creature.  The old things have passed away, and all things have become new.”  Welcome to the family!  There is no promise that your new life in Christ will be easy.  There is only the promise that He will be with you in trouble and that an eternity with Him awaits you.  Read the Bible daily and obey what you read.
